Leadership Liberty is a Liberty Area Chamber of Commerce program that combines leadership skill-building with community education. During the three-month program, participants get a bird’s-eye view of the issues facing the community, begin developing the leadership skills necessary to assume leadership roles, and are exposed to involvement opportunities in the community.

During this program, you will…

• Network with and develop long-term business relationships with others in the class.
• Examine the major business sectors that contribute to the vibrancy and growth of Liberty.
• Enhance the skills needed to become a decision-maker and leader in your community.
• Discover how you and your organization can positively impact your business interactions.

You should apply if…

• You are committed to leadership and community stewardship.
• You want to build a diverse long-term network of colleagues.
• You have a strong desire and interest to promote the organization they represent.
• You want to contribute to the community even after graduation.

  • Education – Get prepared with a clear overview of Liberty Public Schools’ opportunities and challenges. You’ll also hear from the Liberty Education Foundation and local higher education schools.
  • Community Health – Examine how we are improving access and addressing socio-economic determinants of health. You’ll meet with representatives from Liberty Hospital, Clay County Public Health Center, and more.
  • Business & Industry – Experience local businesses firsthand with a Windshield Tour of Liberty. Participants will tour the community on a bus and hear from the Liberty Economic Development Corp. & Chamber about the growth in our area. We’ll also stop and tour two facilities.
  • Civic Leadership – All government is local. You’ll hear from the Liberty Police Dept., Clay County Sheriff’s Office, City of Liberty officials, and a Clay County commissioner.

Class Attendance Policy

Complete attendance is an expectation of participation in the Leadership Liberty program. Please review the program schedule listed, considering your work and outside obligations. If you cannot commit to all sessions this year, consider applying for a future program year. Missing sessions may result in your ineligibility to graduate from the program and/or your dismissal from the class with forfeiture of the tuition.

Technology Policy

The program is enhanced when all participants are active and engaged. Cell phones and other devices should be put away during sessions unless participants use them for note-taking purposes. We recognize that participants are vital to their companies and organizations and that some communication back to the office may be unavoidable during program days. Therefore, session organizers will dedicate time for breaks to allow you to check in. As a leader, we hope you will appropriately delegate responsibilities so that you can fully engage with the program while participating.
